Memorial Cup
This trophy is often regarded as the most important in the Regatta being one of the first prizes contested for from 1948. The trophy was presented by Lerwick Boating Club in 1948 and pays tribute to all the Shetland men and women who died in the services during the Second World War. Initially the Memorial Cup was presented to the best team of two Shetland Models boats over two dedicated races totalling at least 10 miles. The boats represented particular member clubs and each club could enter up to four teams. This was changed to a single team of three Shetland Models per club in 1978 because the large number of competitors at that time made the race difficult to manage. Specific races for non-team boats were introduced at the same time to give all entrants in the Regatta an equal number of races to sail.
